Hi Mike; I am 5'8", the shield has two mounting clamps on the handlebars, it can be removed by loosening the clamps and withdrawing the steel rods that attach to the shield. I used a face shield for years, but recently bought a short helmet with visor and no attachments for a shield, so I was riding with just glasses, but now I think I will stick with the windshield. In answer to another query, I think it must be the deflector shield because it is small, but still, it does a really good job and I haven't lost any gas mileage, I refill at 120 miles. Frank M.
